# More information about Pitcairn Island honey from various places. Previously I had mentioned that the bees on the island were disease free due to being seperated from bees in the rest of the world for centuries. It would appear that I was wrong. In a post to FOP an islander mentioned that all the bees that were wild on the island were lost in the 70's. Hives were subsequently sourced from New Zealand and beekeeping has florished on the island since then. The fact about the plants being pesticide free giving good quality pollen still stands. # During the early 70's the French were testing atmospheric nuclear devices at Mururoa atoll, 500 miles from Pitcairn. During these testing periods technicians from the RAF lived on Pitcairn to monitor levels of radiation to make sure the Pitcairn Islanders were safe.
