# Woman's elbow almost severed in Pitcairn drama. A woman whose elbow was nearly severed while she helped to salvage a longboat on Pitcairn Island is being taken to Tahiti, nearly 200 kilometres away. # Pitcairn longboat damaged and woman injured. Multiple sea accidents at Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific have seen one severely injured islander evacuated to Papeete, Tahiti, major damage to one of the island s longboats, minor injury to another islander, and loss of supplies for the island.

Adventurer saw the world by sea A favorite port of call remained Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific, peopled by descendants of the fabled mutineers of the HMS Bounty who jumped ship and settled there in 1790. In 1957, the Johnsons recovered the ship's anchor in Bounty Bay, which they encouraged residents to preserve along with other important historic relics.
