# The latest Online Pitcairn entry brings home how isolated Pitcairn Island is from the world. For someone to be medically evacuated from the island they need to have access to a ship. The Italian Reefer of the Lauritzen line was nearby in a recent case to divert off their course and pick up a patient from Pitcairn. A video of the evacuation is available at Online Pitcairn. Another recent update has photos and information on the many projects taking place on the island. # The North Face Expeditions - Pitcairn Island. This is a great series of reports and photo's from a group visiting Pitcairn Island to help build a boat shelter. There are a series of ' Live Dispatches' which make great reading. Money can be donated to the Boat Shed Project throught he global giving website. Pitcairn Island is one of the hardest places in the world to reach; yet this fact is just one of many aspects of this volcanic paradise that holds exploration allure. Lying roughly midway between Panama and New Zealand, this one-mile by two-mile wide island is ringed by untamed cliffs, some up to 250 meters, that plunge into the South Pacific Ocean. North Face athletes Mark Synnott, Jimmy Chin, Greg Child, Pete Athans and Kevin Thaw plan to be the first in history to climb them. # Hollywood's re-creation of HMS Bounty sails into Morehead City. The tall ship, led by Capt. Robin Wallbridge and manned by a crew of 18, will sail into the N.C. State Port in Morehead City this weekend for a four-day stop. Friday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the public is invited to tour the vessel, which is a re-creation of the actual HMS Bounty commissioned in the 1700s.
