# James Morrison's Account of Tahiti. A great link from Friends Of Pitcairn. James Morrison's "Account of the Island of Tahiti & the Customs of the Island" forms the second part of the journal he kept of the ill-fated Bounty voyage of 1787-89 and the near six months he subsequently spent on Tahiti under the protection of Tu Nui e A'a i Te Atua (Pomare I), paramount chief of the Pare-Aue region. The manuscript journal is now preserved in the Mitchell Library of the State Library of New South Wales. # Discovering the South Pacific. This article on crusing around the South Pacific has a nice bit about Pitcairn Island. Tendering is theoretically the way to see tiny Pitcairn Island, about halfway between Peru and New Zealand, and home to about 50 descendants of Bligh's mutineers, their Tahitian consorts and a few later settlers. But frequently rough seas and a difficult harbor mean the islanders usually visit the ship, rather than the other way around.
