# Earth punctured by tiny cosmic missiles. An older article (2002) about tiny cosmic missles that entered earth by Pitcairn Island, exiting via Antarctica.

The two objects were picked up by earthquake detectors as they tore through Earth at up to 900,000 mph. According to scientists, the most plausible explanation is that they were "strangelets", clumps of matter that have so far defied detection but whose existence was posited 20 years ago.

The second event took place on November 24, when sensors in Australia and Bolivia picked up an explosion starting in the Pacific south of the Pitcairn Islands and travelling through Earth to appear in Antarctica 19 seconds later.

# A Sydney based auction house has a large collection of items that were found in the attic of a house on Norfolk Island. It contains a set of correspondance from the Rev George Nobbs from Pitcairn Island in the mid 1800's:

The following 69 lots are a hoard of correspondence that was found in the attic of a house on Norfolk Is. These had been hitherto lost to history until this discovery which yields a mass of information on the lives of the people of Pitcairn and Norfolk Is. Until now no correspondence was known to or from The Rev George Nobbs or his family and indeed from the mid to late 19th Century little correspondence is known to or from these islands further highlighting the rarity and significance of this find. Whilst correspondence from Pitcairn to Norfolk is of the utmost rarity, condition with these items is varied, many have been affected by vermin, and this should be considered, but not overshadow the significance of the items. Virtually all the items are accompanied by a typed transcript. To work on this material and to have a snapshot of the lives of these people who were at the furthest outreaches of Empire has indeed been a career highlight. In the case of George Nobbs he attempted (and succeeded) to Minister to the Mind, Body and Soul of the Pitcairn and Norfolk Inhabitants the correspondence provides a window into his life. We commend this material to you. Please refer to Lot 275 for more "Bounty" like material.
