# Vexillarium is a weblog related to flags. The linked to post has the flag of Pitcairn Island alongside two other flags. The website explains the origin of those two flags and why they are alongside the Pitcairn Flag.

Above is a photo of the full-scale replica of Captain Driver's "Old Glory" made by the fine folks at MrFlag.com (Charles Ashburner) in Swansea, Wales. It arrived at my office Friday. It is displayed here on the front of my house, flanked by the flags of Pitcairn Island, with which Captain Driver had an important connection, and the Rock City Guards, the Confederate infantry battalion from Nashville, in which Captain Driver's son, George, fought and died.
The connection to Pitcairn Island is explained in the comments section:
In 1831 the descendants of the mutineers from the HMS Bounty left Pitcairn Island for Tahiti. There they started to die of diseases for which they had no immunities. Captain Driver took them back to Pitcairn Island on the Charles Doggett.
More information on 'Old Glory' and its connection to Pitcairn:
This famous name was coined by Captain William Driver, a shipmaster of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1831. As he was leaving on one of his many voyages aboard the brig CHARLES DOGGETT - and this one would climax with the rescue of the mutineers of the BOUNTY - some friends presented him with a beautiful flag of twenty four stars. As the banner opened to the ocean breeze for the first time, he exclaimed "Old Glory!"
From the Vexillarium web site:
These three flags will displayed at a gathering of members of the North American Vexillological Association in Nashville in October during our visit to Captain Driver's grave. At the end of the convention, we will auction "Old Glory" to the help cover costs of the convention.
So if you're in the region of the NAVA convention, don't be surprised to see the Pitcairn Flag!
