#
Another Bounty Day is drawing closer. The date is Sunday 24th January 2010 at the Darts Club Hall in Kenepuru, Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand. It starts at 1pm and goes till late. The cost is $10 per head and children under 12 are free.

Bounty Day is an opportunity for Pitcairn and Bounty descendants to meet up and have fun. A flyer with information is here. Please print this out and pass it on. You can also print out a page containing the words to the songs sung while the Bounty is set alight.

I've written about previous Bounty days before:

2008

2006

I posted to the Friends of Pitcairn group about the 2009 Bounty Day:

Earlier in the day it was raining very hard in Wellington
but magically cleared up for the entire Bounty day gathering. It ended
up being a beautiful day.

It started at 1pm with lots of mingling and catching up with friends
and relatives. I got to catch up with an uncle I haven't seen for well
over 20 years. The Pitcairn flag was on the wall with the model of the
Bounty in front of it. It looked great and the model, made by Butch
Young, was awesome. In fact it was so awesome it was too good to burn
and another model was burnt instead :-)

The DVD was playing scenes and movies from Pitcairn and photo's were
on the back wall.

The traditional games were started with much enthusiasm, followed by
the annual tug of war between the men and the Women. For the first
time in four years the men actually won! I heard some women talking
about bringing lots more daughters and nieces next year to regain the
tug of war bragging rights!

This was followed by a "unna a coc'nut" competition. Four teams of
four sat down to race to be the first to finish the task. Lots of
shouting, encouragement, and an eventual winner which I forgot who
they were as I gorged myself on coconut - sorry :-)

The burning of the Bounty took place on the field. Everyone sang 'In
the sweet bye and bye' while it burnt and then Leona led the 'Pitcairn
Goodbye Song'.

After that the food came out but unfortunately I had to rush off to
the airport to catch my plane back to Auckland and I missed out on the
good food. Based on previous years I'm sure it was fantastic.

Some photo's:

Hope to see lots of you at Bounty Day 2010!
